Assessment

All students sit a placement test on their first day. This will test your listening, reading, speaking and writing skills. We will use this test to help us place you in the correct class for your English level.

Every 2 weeks we will give you a test based on your course work to see how you have progressed. Following the test, you will have individual counselling with your teacher who will provide feedback on your academic performance. We will use the tests and the recommendation of your teachers to place you in your class for the next term.

When you complete your studies at SELC, we will give you a certificate showing:
  • length of study
  • your English level
  • your attendance rate
  • your class performance
  • skills assessment

Your teachers assess your English level in each of the 4 main skills: listening, reading, speaking, and writing. Your performance mark is based on your participation in class.

Self Study

Self study (or Self-Access) at SELC is supervised afternoon study, between 3:15 - 4:30pm (Monday to Thursday).

Students have access to the Independent Learning Centre (ILC) and can use computers, listening facilities, borrow books, watch DVDs and do their own study/homework. Students have free access to all facilities and just need to make a booking to use a computer. There are also teachers available to help students who have any questions.
