Further Study - Internships

Internships are the gateway to your future!

SELC is offering you the option of an unpaid internship with your English language study.

Internships are organised by a specialist company that is very successful in arranging placements for international students in Australia.

Our student placement partner company is a team of language and teaching professionals that help international students get internship placements. Working with a large number and range of companies means that our partner is able to arrange internships to suit your specific needs.

Internships are unpaid and are designed to gain work experience in your area of interest within the Australian work environment.

Why do an Internship?

  • Make your CV international
  • Gain invaluable hands-on experience in your chosen field
  • Increase your understanding of the career you wish to enter or further your skills in your existing career
  • Get exposure to international business practices
  • Work with industry professionals
  • Develop an international network of contacts
  • Practice your English skills with native speakers
  • Receive academic credit while gaining practical experience
  • Receive a written company reference at the end of your internship
You can request an internship anywhere in Australia!

During your internship you will be assigned a supervisor at your work place and our partner's staff will be available at any time for counselling and assistance.

Visas

Student visa holders are only eligible to do an internship in the period covered by their visa. Most student visas have an extra 4 weeks at the end of their visa after their study is due to finish. Full-time internships can only occur during this time. Part-time internships (maximum 20 hours per week) are also possible on a student visa.
Visitor visa holders are only able to do an internship for a maximum period of 3 months. The holder is entitled to work in an unpaid position as long as the job is not usually a paid position. This means that the internship is usually in a not-for profit organisation.
Working Holiday visas are for 12 months. The holder can work (paid or unpaid) for any one employer for a maximum of 6 months. It is also possible to study for a maximum of 17 weeks on this visa.
416 Special visa is like a working holiday visa and is for 12 months. Anyone aged 18 - 35 from any country can apply for this visa. It is only available for people doing internships and applications must be made overseas.
For further information about visas, visit the DIAC website: www.immi.gov.au
